ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain confidentiality in the performance of all assigned duties and regarding all aspects of work with children and staff.
- Ability to integrate instruction in foundational skills, writing, vocabulary, fluency, grammar, comprehension, and spoken English with the guidance of the Literacy Teacher, while working independently on a one-on-basis to group setting.
- Assist the reading specialists in providing a well-organized, smooth functioning environment in which all students can take full advantage of the literacy reading intervention programs.
- Work with individual students in grade 4-6 to deliver specific grade level intervention programs.
- Must be fluent and proficient in utilizing phonemic awareness strategies to at-risk children.
- Attend reading intervention program trainings as needed.
- Attend additional training sessions as required by intervention program requirements.
- Help prepare intervention materials and resources.
- Monitor student progress within the intervention program and report concerns and results to the reading program teacher.
- Prepare and maintain student records as required for specific intervention programs.
- Demonstrate cooperation, openness for growth, and willingness to contribute as a productive team member.
- Undertaking the daily planning, delivery and assessment of activities directly from the intervention program to ensure accelerated progress for targeted children, under the guidance of the Reading Teacher.
- Undertaking the work within a nurturing and supportive ethos to promote and reinforce the children’s self-esteem and independence and encourage positive attitudes and social interaction.
- Preparing teaching materials as required for the delivery of the program.
- Monitoring pupils’ individual needs and progress and reporting to the class Literacy Reading teacher as appropriate.
- Meeting with the Reading Teacher (line manager) on a daily basis for progress updates and feedback.
- Undertaking any additional duties which may be allocated by the Reading Literacy Teacher.
- Assist with escorting and supervising students within and outside the school.
- Other duties may be assigned by the building principal, assistant principal and/or reading specialist.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Proof of a minimum of 48 semester hours from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- Passed the Texas Education Para-Professional Certification with Certificate.
- Exhibit understanding, patience, emotional stability, and a positive attitude for working with children.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to develop effective working relationship with students, staff and the school community.
